First day at a new school
I don’t know the language and I don’t know what’s cool
I like my teacher though
Her name is Mrs. B
That day in class she puts a math question to me
So I stand up straight and tall
And out of all the faces I can see
I see the prettiest blue eyes blinking back at me
As I sing
Two times two is four
Three times two is six
Four times two is eight and I sat back down in my seat
And thought
That girl I see
Is the one for me
I was in the fourth grade
And she was in grade three
As it so happened
We were both fastest runners in our respective grades
And this was reflected in the lunch-time game we played
I’d be in the lead and she’d be chasing me
Why we did it I don’t know
But outside that wooden school, round and round we’d go
Maybe I’d had enough
Maybe we had run too far
All I know she had me cornered on those metal climbing bars
Right then she asked me if I loved her and I said no
She asked again and I said maybe
Right then my heart beat out my chest
When on the third time she asked me I said yes
Stephanie
You’re the one for me
I was in the fourth grade
She was in grade three
Our lives were set together by our peers that were in charge
And our love resounded through that primary school yard
Pretty soon I received my first love-letter
It had the edges crinkle-cut and my name in bright gold glitter
I showed it to my big brother and I said ‘what am I supposed to do with it?’
He said ‘keep it if you want’ so thats what I did
I made sure it was well hid
In my special box with a padlock on the lid
I didn’t want my folks to see
I was scared of what they’d think of me
I was in the fourth grade
And she was in grade three
It hadn’t been that long and it hadn’t been as fun
As before we were together and we could simply run
Pretty soon I heard the word ‘the end for us had come’
See, I didn’t hold her hand
I wasn’t a good friend
And I did not write back to her love-letter
I know I didn’t understand
And I wish I had known better
Stephanie
You’re the one for me
I was in the fourth grade
And she was in grade three

Me And My Land Cruiser
04:22
|

Well, I should give thanks, when I turn the key the engine cranks. But of all the pains and all the pranks, nothing compares to buying my land cruiser.
The owners said is was a hell of a deal. ‘Dollar less it would of been a steel. My thing is I go by feel. Don’t know what I was feeling.
They said the car was quite the beast. All that power, feel the torque. Put your boot in, it really snorts (yeah, anyway). This all contradicted the mechanics report. See the mechanic said “first things first you’ll need to adjust the clutch but more to the point the vehicle’s fucked”
Sometimes I feel like my land cruiser, a body with a little bit of rust
If carry on I have to then carry on I must
So I drove away with a rock in my guts. The roof lining fell on my head. I couldn’t see. I thought this sucks!
I called up the owners to say there’d been a mistake, “you sold me a lemon, I ordered a stake”. The said they didn’t know. Didn’t know who I was. I said “thats alright be a good sport and wear a bowtie, I’ll see you in court”
Sometimes I feel like my land cruiser, a body with a little bit of rust
If carry on I have to then carry on I must
With my feathers ruffled the wind blew and I got to thinking about what to do and I thought maybe going to court wasn’t the thing to do. It’s about being a decent human being. Not doing what you’re told.
Five grand I paid. Thats three for the vehicle and two for the lesson. Don’t follow your ego
Sometimes I feel like my land cruiser, a body with a little bit of rust
If carry on I have to then carry on I must
So I drive the thing and with every thud and clanking sound I start to wonder if I’ll get to town, but I do, I make it to the shops. Take the back way, avoid the cops.
Now when I turn left well thats alright. But when I turn right and it turns left well thats not right, it’s left. Bloody scary. And the relay’s blown so the lights strobe which is all good unless you need to see the road. But don’t get me wrong I like the ride, despite the grief and painful side. See, I am to my Soul like my land cruiser is to me. A vehicle……a vehicle
Sometimes I feel like my land cruiser, a body with a little bit of rust
If carry on I have to then carry on I must
